Bly Hollow Ancient Gruit

Ale brewed with herbs. For thousands of years it was women, not men, who made beer. In medieval Europe nobody knew from hops; instead they brewed gruit, bittering the sweet liquor with the artemisias (named after Artemis, goddess of the hunt), including wormwood and yarrow used in this recipe. The artemesias have long beeen known for their healing properties, and gruit, as opposed to hopped beer, has been proven to promote male sexual drive. No wonder women were in charge of beer making!
