Perceived sweetness, which contrasts well with the dark roast, coffee and chocolate flavors.
The base of this beer is an American stout recipe developed after drinking several commercial examples. It never placed very well as an American stout in competitions, but has won several first place awards as a sweet stout. The carapils and wheat malts in this recipe balance the dark malt and aggressive hops. The addition of chai tea in the whirlpool takes this beer to another dimension. The spices from the chai along with the depth of the beer creates a very complex beer that has even non-stout drinking beer lovers asking for more
