Beer Description

A tropical stout that pays homage to the foreign export stouts primarily brewed in the Caribbean. As grains weren’t all that available in these warm and humid conditions, brewers would use molasses and molasses based ingredients like brown sugar to brew beer. Our take on this style features Maris Otter malt and piloncillo sugar, also known as brown cane sugar. FFJ has a deep roasted malt and chocolate flavor without the heaviness that people generally equate with stouts. It also has an ever so slight essence of rum stemming from the molasses content in the sugar.

The name Funkin’ For Jamaica is inspired by one of my favorite songs of all time, Tom Browne’s Funkin’ For Jamaica (N.Y) which is actually about the Jamaica Queens neighborhood in NYC.
