Beer Description

40 years of innovation and inspiring the rest of the country through homebrewing deserves a very special beer and our brewery wouldn’t be here today without the pioneering spirit of the homebrew movement. The Maltose Falcons is Los Angeles’ oldest homebrew club and we were lucky enough to collaborate and brew with the crew to celebrate their 40th Anniversary!

English Brown malt, drum roasted Caramel malt, Chocolate malt and a healthy dose of brown sugar, together with West Coast American hops created a luscious Barley Wine class Brown Ale. After fermentation was completed in stainless steel we racked the brew over to Rum barrels, along with a few Brandy and Bourbon barrels to add spice and complexity. After 7 months of rest in barrel, allowing time for the brew to soak up the flavors, we bottled the finished beer just in time for the big celebration day! The result is best described as Rum soaked chocolate pound cake. Loads of rich, silky cocoa dusted malt character with a sturdy yet elegant balance on hop spice and boozy barrel accents. This beer is ready to drink now, but will stand up to some time aging in a cool dark cellar. Best enjoyed in a brandy snifter with your favorite homebrewing friends – those who have cracked grains, made wort flow and kept yeasts as pets. The Firestone Walker Brewing team is proud to be apart of this celebration and is happy to present to you – The Maltose Falcons Brownywine! In the words of our fearless leader Charlie Papazian “Relax, don’t worry have a homebrew."
