Not as dark as you'd think, but still pretty complex and malty. Easy on the hops. Pretty tasty, I'd drink it again.

a good alternative to founders red rye (its considered a red ale) but with a slightly more toasted/malted taste rather than pure citrus, although citrus notes are still dominant

It was hoppy. I expected it to be dark and mysterious, per the name, but it was pretty fun tasting.
