Supeh Freekeh, the collaborative effort between the teams at Greenport Harbor, Bierkraft, and Back 40, began with the commitment that everyone would be reflected in the beer we brewed. Supeh Freekeh is a West Yorkshire ale at its foundation, brewed with a blend of Golden Promise and Maris Otter base malts, crystal and caramel wheat malts, and Freekeh, an unmalted green wheat. Homemade burnt candy sugar boosts the gravity and adds a light caramel sweetness. A single addition of English Fuggle and Golding hops provide just a hint of balancing bitterness. What started as a simple English ale is transformed to a slightly smoky, perfumed and exotic take on a classic style.
