A Month-long Celebration of Havoc and Mayhem

“The East Coast vs. West Coast Punk Rock Brew Tour”
Presented by Smuttynose, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada and Sixpoint Brewing Co’s
Produced by CBM21 Media
Tuesday, August 12th thru Tuesday, September 2nd 2014

Brooklyn, NY – July 14th 2014 – Batten down the hatches, get on the bus or get out of the way! CBM21 Media presents the 4th Annual East Coast vs. West Coast punk Rock brew Tour and we’ll be tearing up a craft beer venue near you soon. A beer and music event, the #ECvWCPRBT will feature a soundtrack of punk, hardcore, metal and stoner rock paired with great craft brewed beer from 4 of America’s best craft breweries. This yearly gathering of rowdy hooligans will launch an 18-city tour beginning in NYC’s historic punk rock breeding ground. The tour kicks off on Manhattan’s Lower East Side at Idle Hands Bar, once a notorious after hours punk club and will hit several states across the North East before rolling back into Brooklyn, NY for the “live band” Grand Finale at The Gutter in Williamsburg. Each night will be bonkers and fun as hell! Come on down and drink the finest American craft beers while mashing and grinding to a soundtrack of punk, hardcore, metal and stoner rock that will include bands from Scissor Fight to Black Flag and from White Zombie to Slayer. Featured shows will include live punk and hardcore bands TBA while the others will feature DJ’s spinning vinyl records old-school style.

History:
In 2011, over more than a few beers and most likely other accouterments (more than likely actually) Smuttynose Brewing Co.’s Pat Fondiller was hanging with his good buddy from Lagunitas Brewing Co., Mark Sljucik. The conversation, though lost to the haze, probably went something like this… “Dude, these tap takeovers blow!” - “Totally Man, wouldn’t it be cool if?” …And so on… Sharing a love of punk rock, stoner rock, heavy metal as well as fine craft brewed beer, and completely sick of the run of the mill tap-takeover common in many beer bars, the East Coast vs. West Coast Punk Rock Brew Tour was cracked wide open. The concept was to have a subversive, new-fangled kind of brewery night. Crazy as it seemed, the idea was to bring in our rivals and have a mutually beneficial craft beer pow-wow of epic proportions – a tap takeover targeting the best craft beer bars in all 5 NYC boroughs, Westchester and Long Island. It was to be a beer night beneficial to the breweries, beer bars and wholesalers alike – all with a ripping soundtrack of music that we actually wanted to listen to. We invited a few of our like-minded brewery friends – Sean McCain of the Bronx Brewery (Sean worked for Victory Brewing Co. at the time) and Ben Wood with Ballast Point Brewing Co. along for the shenanigans.

The first tour consisted of the 4 aforementioned brands and a punk rock soundtrack doing 9 dates over 3 weeks in NYC. We realized quickly that we had tapped into a market that was most definitely under-served and ready to go. Our nights have featured everything from a completely over-the-top snowball fight for the ages in NYC Hell’s Kitchen getting 2 feet of snow on our opening night in 2011 to a dreadlocked hippie-chick in a Bruins hat beating the ever-living snot out of Mick Stitch of the LES Stitches (our DJ) at a venue in Brooklyn (not to scare you off!). We’ve had snake and scorpion wine, Karaoke, wound up in late-night strip clubs and so much more. In 2012 we added more venues, dates and heavy metal due to popular demand. In 2013 we added more brands and moved the tour outside of NY for the first time makings 21 stops including Boston, Providence, Syracuse, Buffalo, NJ, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. Each and every stop on the tour from day one has drawn large, enthusiastic crowds of beer and music maniac freaks. Every single EC v. WC to date has been a smashing success! We have been featured in the NY Times, Ale Street News, The Onion, WFMU and many other media outlets. WE WILL, very soon, make this a nationwide tour, so again – get on the bus or get out of the way!

2014

From the East Coast, Portsmouth, New Hampshire’s Smuttynose Brewing Company will be joined by their East Coast compadres, Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewing Company. At the helm of the West Coast is Lagunitas Brewing Company located in Petaluma, CA (an original East Coast/West Coast brewery) along with the venerable OG, Chico, CA based, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.

Each Brewery will showcase their IPA or India Pale Ale. Like Punk, the IPA is a beer style invented by the British, but made wholly American in subsequent years by brewers in the U.S. Each venue will vary in the number of draft lines that they offer and will have at least three styles per brewery. Some venues may have as many as a whopping 10 lines from each brewery. The beer styles on the tour will vary from the aforementioned IPA’s to seasonal brews to the very rare and exotic.

The East Coast vs. West Coast events will be hosted by representatives and in some cases brewers from all of the participating breweries. Event attendees will be able to have their questions about beer and brewing answered by several breweries all in one evening all the while rampaging to a hardcore soundtrack.

East Coast vs. West Coast Punk Rock Brew Tour, who wins? You decide!
