Beyond Kombucha, based out of Astoria, NY, has been fermenting hand-crafted kombucha made with fine, traditional teas and medicinal herbs since January 2010. As of last week, they gained the distinction of being the only federal and state licensed alcohol-positive kombucha brewery on the East Coast.

In addition to their standard kombuchas, which contain 0.8% – 1.5% alcohol by volume, they are developing a variety of artisan kombucha ales, fruit-infused kombucha ciders, and sparkling kombucha wines ranging in alcohol content from 5% to 9%.

Mava Roka, their first high-alcohol release, is a maple vanilla rooibos kombucha ale containing 6.3% alcohol by volume. It will be presented to the public on Thursday, Dec. 15 at The Queens Kickshaw in Astoria, NY, where guests will have the opportunity to meet the brewmasters from 6pm – 9pm. Samples will be available in 4oz and 10oz sizes for $3 and $7 respectively.
