Beer 101: The Domestic Crafts at The Study at Astor Center

June 13, Fri at 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

There are over sixty styles of beers brewed in the world, more than 5,000 breweries and in excess of 15,000 brands of beer among all the styles brewed. In this class, we’ll taste them all in one night. Ok, maybe not all of them, but we will cover ten of the classic styles, all brewed by U.S. craft breweries. It’s no longer just imported beers that serious beer lovers seek out. There has been a renaissance in the brewing and consumption of beer in the U.S. since the late 1970s, and we’ll taste some beers brewed in the Irish, English, Belgian, German, Czech — and American — style. Beer doesn’t have to be bland and yellow!

In the course of the tasting, we’ll discuss the history of beer through the millennia, from the dawn of civilization to the present. An Ancient Sumerian proverb read, “No children without sex. No drunkenness without beer.” Homer Simpson said, “I would kill everyone in this room for a drop of sweet beer.”
