The English brewing tradition is in many ways the antithesis of the German brewing tradition. English brewer’s use of adjuncts, that could not legally be used in German beers, in a number of traditional styles is well documented. Our Dark Pastures Milk Stout strives to find a happy medium.
Using German Munich instead of the traditional English Pale Malt as a base, and a healthy dose of German hops but still blatantly defying the German Purity Law of 1516 with the use of both Oats and Milk Sugars to increase mouthfeel, body and sweetness, Dark Pastures will tip your cow!
Aromas of Dark Chocolate and Espresso, Roasted Almonds and Toasted Biscuit escape the silky light brown head. Oats and Milk Sugar (Lactose) add a creamy, slick body and bready sweetness to the Cedar, Fig and Chocolate finish.
