Art and science. Function and form. These are Wort Hog Brewing Company’s goals for flavorful, well-made beer. All in harmony. Everything in its place. Our Shenandoah Dew is a stunning example of art and science coming together in liquid form.
In designing the recipe for Shenandoah Dew, our Yeast Shepherd, Jeremy, carefully chose ingredients to contribute unique flavors, aromas and mouthfeel to the finished beer.
Superior Pale Ale Malt was chosen to be the malty backbone of Shenandoah Dew. Generous amounts of flaked oats and a touch of milk sugar add a pillowy and almost silky mouthfeel.
Citra hops contribute tropical and aromas of fresh citrus. ElDorado hops lend some pineapple and stone fruit characteristics. Amarillo hops add notes of fresh oranges and peaches. Idaho #7 hops bring aromas of apricot, red grapefruit and papaya along with notes of resiny pine and hints of black tea. We Dry Hopped Shenandoah Dew at VERY specific times to contribute a GIANT tropical fruit and citrus aroma to the finished beer. Is it Juicy? Heck yeah it is!
Shenandoah Dew Unfiltered IPA has a soft, velvet-like mouthfeel and a bold burst of tropical and fruit flavors that come from the hops. It was an exercise in setting up a situation for yeast to bio-transform hop’s essential oils like geraniol (think flowery aroma) to ß-citronellol (think BIG CITRUS aromatics).
Wort Hog Brewing Company’s Shenandoah Dew is a labor of love. A soft, juicy, unfiltered IPA for everyone. Especially for those who shy away from the scathing bitterness that most IPAs bring. Rather, Shenandoah Dew is a liquid sonnet to the art and science of making beer. Cheers!
