In Latin American marketplaces, you can buy polvo de horchata (“horchata powder”); ingredients are roasted, boiled, ground into powder, and sold in bags. Take it home and mix it with water or, for a richer drink, milk. Inspired by a Nicaraguan recipe, the bitterness of the dark roasted malts in our Horchata Stout is balanced by the sweetness that comes from the milk sugars, the rich flavors of Ecuadorian Cacao and Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, and the subtle and delicate flavor of Ceylon Cinnamon. It is a beer as nuanced and complex as the tropical volcanic landscape of Nicaragua.
