Beer Description
The year 1634 was when the Province of Maryland was founded at Saint Mary’s City. This beer was
originally brewed to celebrate the 375th anniversary of this date. The ingredients reflect the austere
conditions of life in the early colonies; brewers of that day would use whatever they could get their hands
on. Our recipe has molasses and malted rye, along with malted wheat and other specialty malts. We also
used caramel and dark malts, which round out the flavor and contribute a beautiful garnet or ruby-red
color. Caraway also plays a role in the flavor of this beer. It was used alongside the hops for spicing, as it
augments the rye flavor.
