Sheep Shagger Scotch Ale aged in Scotch Whisky Barrels strong smoky flavor derived from the peating levels of the barley malt
Shaggin’ In The Highlands™ is the latest release in our barrel-aged Brewers Gone Wild! series.
Shaggin’ In The Highlands is our Sheep Shagger Scotch Ale (enhanced with a bit more peat character) aged in Scotch Whisky Barrels. This year we were able to get Scotch Whisky Barrels from Islay, one of the islands off the west coast of Scotland. The Scotch Whiskies of Islay have a strong smoky flavor derived from the peating levels of the barley malt. They also have been described as possessing notes of iodine, seaweed and salt.
Some suggest that we seek too much balance in our beers… not this time. This beer is barrel-dominated with a strong peat character. The nose and initial flavor would almost lead you to believe you are drinking a glass of Islay Scotch Whisky but then the sweetness of Scotch Ale comes through to round out the finish.
