Beer Description

When two rounds of dry-hopping just aren’t enough, sometimes you have to circle back around for a third; and this is exactly where the majority of Nine Trizzay’s 9.3 pounds of hops per barrel end up. While this Double IPA is as dry as Inglewood in the summer, the 9.9% ABV and bready British malts provide an airbag-like cushion for the massive amount of Westcoast hops that get dropped on it like a 64’ Impala. The result is a big bitterness that never gets astringent or out of line, and somehow manages to find some balance between the two opposing factions of malt and hop. Aroma is drenched in juicy honeydew melon, grapefruit zest, freshly picked pine needles, and a discreet amount of indo. Flavors deliver as promised with even more complex melon notes of cantaloupe, a medley of citrus, some sweet hints of Muscat grape, and juicy passion fruit create a jubilee of flavors reminiscent of the pink bottle of Mad Dog 20/20, but only in the best possible way. As the overly fruity hops give way, a quick and short-lasting bitterness cleans the palate and leaves behind tremendously resinous notes of the stickiest of the icky. By throwing those 9.3 pounds per barrel of hops into this beer a lot of it is soaked up and ends up in a pasture; but what is left dons the name Nine Trizzay.
