Beer Description

A simple grain bill contributes a solid base and gives this beer a light, golden color. But the hops are what this beer is about!

My son Elijah had this stuffed monkey. (I can guarantee that no other Double IPA Beer Description has ever started with those 7 words.) The stuffed monkey went EVERYWHERE with Elijah. And I mean everywhere. If we went trekking to the mountains of New Hampshire… monkey was there. To the beach? You guessed it, monkey came along too. If we went to the zoo, the city, to Church… monkey.
One day, I asked Elijah what the monkey’s name was. (I was tired of calling it “monkey.” I like to think that it got tired of being called monkey. I mean, I would get tired of being dragged all over the planet by someone who called me “human being.” But I digress.) SO… I asked for the monkey’s name. “His name is Señor BOOMBOX, Papa!” He said it in a way that made me feel like I should have KNOWN. Elijah also said that I should name a beer after Señor Boombox. I thought that it was a good idea. And time passed…
Señor Boombox is still in our house…somewhere. Though I’m sure that he’s a bit worse for the wear. 10+ years of travel will do that to a monkey. I never forgot that Elijah asked me to name a beer Señor Boombox, though. And here we are. Present day…
Introducing Señor Boombox, Wort Hog Brewing Company’s newest Double IPA! A Double IPA that’s not too Old Skool. Not too New Skool. It’s kind of a Double IPA for once upon a time called RIGHT NOW!
Wort Hog’s brewers decided to keep the malt profile of this beer simple and clean. A whole mess of 2-Row and a little bit of malted wheat. That’s it. The malt is there, but it’s holding everything together. It is not the star of the show, and it knows it. The simple grain bill contributes a solid base and gives Señor Boombox a light, golden color.
Insofar as hops are concerned, though. Yeah. We got hops in there. Some Old Skool varietals like Cascade and Centennial, Chinook and Amarillo make a showing. For sure. But we also used some New Skool hops like ElDorado and Citra. It’s this interplay between the hops (old skool and new skool) that make Señor Boombox the Double IPA for RIGHT NOW.
Señor Boombox is a pretty awesome beer. It’s named after a pretty awesome kid’s pretty awesome stuffed monkey. We weren’t just monkeying around with this one. (See what we did there?)
