Beer Description
The malt used for this beer is Maris Otter and the hops is Azacca. Uses boiled honey to create the illusion of a complex malt bill.
Wee Heavy Otter was made for the Florida SMASH Beer Festival and to celebrate September as Honey Beer Month! SMASH is a beer that is made using a Single Malt and Single Hop (hence SMASH).
The malt used for this beer is Maris Otter and the hops is Azacca. To give the illusion of a complex malt bill that is used in Wee Heavy or Scotch Ales, we boiled honey (this is done when making a Bochet Mead) until it turned black to give the flavors of roasted and caramel malts. We also boiled the beer for 5 hours! This allowed us to produce a Wee Heavy using only one malt! Its is 8.5% and most of the bitterness in the beer comes from the boiled honey.
