Celebrate the arrival of this Autumn season with our German style Märzen lager! Märzen (“maer-tsen”) is the German word for March, which refers to the month in which this style of beer was originally brewed. During the middle ages, this beer was brewed during the spring and aged in cool cellars throughout the hot summers. This allowed for a slower fermentation and long aging time also known as “lagering”. The beer was consumed in the late summer and early fall which led to festivals commonly referred to as Oktoberfest.
Life on Märzen is a golden lager brewed with Vienna, Munich, and Pilsner malts. This blend of malts lends itself to a beautiful golden color, a clean, rich and toasty aroma, and a pleasantly distinct and complex flavor with a nice dry finish. This lager is appropriately hopped with Hersbrucker, a noble hop, which is added at various times throughout the boil. Hersbrucker gives off a classic German hop aroma and flavor with subtle notes of grass, flowers, and slight fruit.
