Lakefront Leinenkugel Licorice Porter

Lakefront Brewery and Leinenkugel’s unveiled their 4th collaboration beer, Licorice Porter, at the 2014 Midwest Food Service Expo. Taking a sharp stylistic turn from last year’s Checkpoint Charlie, a Berliner Weisse served with cherry syrup; Licorice Porter was brewed to the style of a fairly rare German Porter and included German malts, yeast, hops and licorice root. While the name of the beer and addition of the root would suggest a black licorice flavor, the root actually produces a sweet earthy flavor that blends seamlessly with the porter style and is known in German as ‘sweet root.
