Beer Description
This historical style, made prior to Prohibition, has notes of coffee and dark chocolate from the darker roasted malts, with a slight sweetness for balance. It’s made with a lager yeast, which reduces the fruity notes that can come from ale yeasts. It’s also made with six row barley, which was the more common variety of barley historically available in North America, which, being higher in protein, was commonly balanced by adjuncts such as corn, which we did in this beer.
