Beer Description
Silvester is the German name for New Year’s Eve, named after Pope Sylvester I, whose feast day is December 31st. Silvesterbier is a rarity even in Germany. Neuwitzberg is a hamlet nestled in the alps on the German-Polish border and they keep the tradition of Silvesterbier alive. Brewed on the Beaver Moon of the previous year, Silvesterbier is a moderately hopped, deeply golden lager made at 15 degrees Plato with an abv around 6.5 percent. The Neuwitzberg brewers included a dark malted wheat-in violation of the Reinheitsgebot. In 1714 the authorities investigated this violation and moved to close the offending breweries. “A totally delicious and badass Lager.”
