Stillwater Artisanal Fifth Anniversary

I’m down in Miami, enjoying a little rest and relaxation, and, thanks to Joe and Donna Ward, getting a great education in the burgeoning craft beer scene down here. Yesterday was a particularly good day as we visited one of my favorite new brewers, Jonathan Wakefield, founder of the brand new J Wakefield Brewing, followed by a quick walk to Box Elder, a great new beer bar/bottle shop also recently opened by a husband and wife who happen to be friends of the Wards. Both places are part of an exciting new world in these parts, as Miami shifts from craft beer desert to an oasis – the timing of Joe and Donna’s move down here couldn’t have better, especially with the winter we’ve been having up north.

I really don’t want to leave, but duty calls, and so does an event at the Tiger I’d never miss – Stillwater’s Fifth Anniversary this coming Sunday, March 29th. I can’t believe Brian Stillwater Strumke ‘s project is now five incredibly creative years in the making. He never ceases to surprise me, going from a big deal in the music world to world-class brewer, without missing a beat. And now, like Joe and Donna, he’s reinventing himself again, with Stillwater Artisanal Contemporary Works – new beers that have little in common with what he’s done in the past. Just to show everyone he can brew whatever you might desire, we’ll be showcasing his new line. Pilsner, IPA, Stout, Smoked India Black Ale, and an Imperial Rice IPA – Mono, Stereo, Surround, Vacuum, Projector respectively. Join us as we celebrate Brian’s past, and see him off on his new adventure.

Oops – I’m late to meet the Wards – they’re very strict about cocktail hour beginning at 5 sharp, and Donna sent me a photo of one of the largest martinis I’ve ever seen for incentive. I’m on my way…
