Wheel Horse Rye is a sour mash whiskey, distilled and matured at O.Z. Tyler Distillery in Owensboro, KY. We us a 95% rye (5% malted barley) mash, and distill exclusively in copper stills...
Like many historic distilleries, The O.Z. Tyler Distillery has seen its ups and downs, and has changed hands many times throughout its storied past. In fact, for the better part of the past few decades the distillery has been offline and was nearly destroyed. In 2014, a new owner came in to rebuild the distillery and bring it back on line with an eye toward excellence. The new owner brought in Ron Call, a veteran Master Distiller with 40 years of experience at Jim Beam and Florida Caribbean Distillers, to facilitate the next evolution of the distilling operation. Production officially resumed at the newly minted O.Z. Tyler in 2016, and the Master Distiller’s torch was passed on to Ron’s son, Jacob, a seventh generation Kentuckian and a third-generation distiller. Everything was set up to create the next great Kentucky whiskey.
